Official Hometown of Santa Claus

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Start off your visit on the 10th (Sun): see Santa Claus Office, then find something for the whole family at SantaPark - the Home Cavern of Santa Claus, and then find something for the whole family at Moomin Snowcastle. Keep things going the next day: make a trip to Lordi's Square, then look for all kinds of wild species at Wildlife Areas, then revel in the low prices at Marttiini Store Old Factory, and finally don't miss a visit to Santa Claus Village.

Helsinki to Rovaniemi is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also take a train; or drive. Plan for little chillier temperatures traveling from Helsinki in January, with highs in Rovaniemi at -10°C and lows at -17°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Mon) early enough to drive to Levi.

You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Levi Ski Resort and Icekarting Levi. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Levi: Safaris (in Akaslompolo) and Lapland Hotels SnowVillage (in Kittila). Drive from Rovaniemi to Levi in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Expect slightly colder evenings in Levi when traveling from Rovaniemi in January, with lows around -21°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 14th (Thu) early enough to travel to Saariselka.

Outdoor pursuits--ranging from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to reindeer safaris and chasing Northern Lights--draw the largest number of tourists to Saariselka.
On the 15th (Fri), get a dose of the wild on a nature and wildlife tour, then look for gifts at Hippupuoti Gift Shop, and then examine the collection at Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 16th (Sat): tour the pleasant surroundings at Saariselka Ski & Sport Resort and then pause for some serene contemplation at Saariselka S:t Paulus Chapel.
