Helsinki

Daughter of the Baltic

Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Get some historical perspective at Mannerheim Museum and Helsinki Cathedral. Natural History Museum (Luonnontieteellinen Museo) and Seurasaari Island and Open-Air Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Change things up with these side-trips from Helsinki: Sipoonkorven Kansallispuisto (in Vantaa) and Tuusula (Tuusulanjarvi (Lake Tuusula) & Halosenniemi Museum). There's still lots to do: wander the streets of Katajanokka, explore the galleries of Sea Fortress Suomenlinna, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Temppeliaukio Church, and look for all kinds of wild species at Laajalahti Nature Reserve.
