Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
You've now added Imatrankoski to your itinerary. Explore Imatra's surroundings by going to Lappeenranta (Lappeenrannan kirkko, Lappeenranta Fortress, &more), Kotka (Palotorninvuori Park, Linden Esplanade, &more) and Hamina (Hamina Town Hall & Hamina Fortress). The adventure continues: admire the sheer force of Imatra Waterfall, learn about all things military at Imatra Veteran’s Home Museum, take in the spiritual surroundings of Church of St. Nicholas, and pause for some serene contemplation at De tre korsens kyrka.

Helsinki to Imatra is an approximately 3-hour train ride. You can also drive; or take a bus. In April in Imatra, expect temperatures between 8°C during the day and 0°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 1st (Fri) early enough to travel back home.
