Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Linnansaari National Park and Salpa Line Museum. Venture out of the city with trips to Savonlinna (Pikkukirkko & Olavinlinna Castle), Puumala (Lietvesi Scenic Road, Puumalansalmen silta ja nakoalahissi, & more) and Lappeenranta (Lappeenranta Fortress, Sandcastle Lappeenranta, & more). Spend the 14th (Tue) exploring nature at Repovesi National Park. There's lots more to do: take in the dramatic scenery at Imatra Waterfall, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Lauritsala Church, take in the dramatic natural features at Punkaharju Ridge, and learn about all things military at Bunker Museum.

Expect a daytime high around 17°C in May, and nighttime lows around 6°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 18th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
