An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.

Step out of Rovaniemi to go to Ranua and see Ranua Zoo, which is approximately 1 hour away. Newcastle upon Tyne, UK to Rovaniemi is an approximately 10-hour combination of train and flight. You can also do a combination of car, train, and bus; or take a bus. Drive from Rovaniemi to Levi in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In December, daytime highs in Levi are -6°C, while nighttime lows are -15°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 10th (Fri) so you can go by car to Luosto.

Nestled among vast forests and fells, Luosto represents a small idyllic resort village set on the edge of Pyha-Luosto National Park.
