On the shores of the country's largest lake system, Lappeenrata serves as the economic and cultural center of southeast Finland.
Get some cultural insight at Lappeenranta Fortress and Lappeenrannan raatihuone. Escape the urban bustle at Saimaa Canal and Lammassaari Island. Get out of town with these interesting Lappeenranta side-trips: Ruokolahti (Ruokolahden Kirkko & Kummakivi Boulder), Imatra (Church of St. Nicholas, De tre korsens kyrka, &more) and Rautjarven kirkko (in Simpele). There's still lots to do: take in the dramatic scenery at Imatra Waterfall, pause for some serene contemplation at Ristikankaan kappeli, admire the striking features of Lappeen Marian kirkko, and get outside with Atreenalin Seikkailupuistot.
