On the shores of the country's largest lake system, Lappeenrata serves as the economic and cultural center of southeast Finland.
Attractions like Sandcastle Lappeenranta and Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God make great kid-friendly stops. Change things up with a short trip to Repovesi National Park in Kouvola (about 1h 20 min away). Next up on the itinerary: contemplate the waterfront views at Saimaa Canal, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Nuijamaa Church, see human ingenuity at work at Imatrankoski, and see the interesting displays at Lappeenranta Fortress.
