Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Kick off your visit on the 7th (Sat): get engrossed in the history at Seurasaari Island and Open-Air Museum, then wander the streets of Katajanokka, then admire the masterpieces at Kansallisgalleria, and finally steep yourself in history at Pohjolan toimitalo. Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
On the 9th (Mon), head off the coast to Lammassaari Island, step off the mainland to explore Malonsaari, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Church of St. Nicholas, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Tainionkosken Church, and finally take in the dramatic scenery at Imatra Waterfall.

Take a train from Helsinki to Imatra in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of flight and train. In September, daytime highs in Imatra are 58°F, while nighttime lows are 46°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Mon) to allow time to drive to Savonlinna.
